The Concept

To celebrate the Route 66 Bicentennial, Visit California tapped WCS to publish a digest-size sales manual that celebrates California’s stretch of this iconic highway. With itineraries, packing lists, and a custom illustrated map, Shannon Brooks (managing editor) and Hither and Wander (design) blended useful service info with editorial content that highlights Route 66’s quirky roadside stops, motels, and attractions.

The Numbers

The guide was distributed at US Travel Association’s annual IPW conference. More than 5,000 buyers from 60 countries snapped up copies in droves.

WCS exceeded every expectation. The magazine they delivered was not only on-brand, on time, and on budget, but it perfectly balanced legacy with a fresh, modern, and playful spirit.
